WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PTSD

PTSD stands for post traumatic stress disorder . It can happen to a person who experiences a traumatic event which cause them to feel fearful , anxious , stressed etc . It can have long term effect that includes difficulty in sleeping , anxiety etc . Women are more likely to be affected than men .

Symptoms :

Difficulty in sleeping .

Feeling tense and anxious .

Nightmares and fearful thoughts .

Feeling emotionally and mentally detached from others .

Difficulty in concentrating .

Mental health problems such as depression , phobias etc.

Sweating , shaking, headaches, chest pain, dizziness etc .

Suicidal thoughts .

Treatment :

If you are diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder , then your doctor may prescribe therapy , medication etc. Talk therapy motivates you to talk about your traumatic experience and it may help you change the negative thinking related to it . In exposure therapy , you have to re – experience the trauma in the safe environment . This can help reduce your symptoms. Sleep aids , anti depressants etc can help relieve the symptoms of stress and anxiety .

Coping up with PTSD :

Coping up with PTSD is not easy but one can try to live a healthy lifestyle and take care of yourself which will also help with PTSD .

Eat a healthy and balanced diet .

Try to get enough sleep and exercise daily .

Avoid conversations that makes you feel bad .

 

PTSD is common nowadays . Early treatment can help you relieve the symptoms . Through therapy , medications etc you can recover from it . Also remember that you are not alone , spend time with people you love and feel comfortable around.
