Stretch marks is  type of scar which develops when the skin stretches or shrinks quickly . It appears as parallel lines on the skin . These lines commonly appear during pregnancy or if you gain or lose weight suddenly .

Who can develop stretch marks :

If you are a women

During pregnancy

If you have a family history

If you are using medications (corticosteroid)

Being overweight

How it is diagnosed :

Stretch marks can easily be diagnosed by looking at the skin  . But if the doctor notices something unusual they may order blood or urine tests .

How stretch marks can be treated :

Stretch marks can be treated . There are various products and procedures that helps to eliminate the stretch . But these aren’t effective . Also moisturizing is quite effective as helps to relieve itchiness of stretch marks .

How stretch marks can be prevented :

There is no permanent way one can prevent stretch marks fully . But if you try to maintain a healthy weight by eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly you can prevent stretch marks by sudden weight loss and gain . Also try to consume a balanced diet of vitamins and minerals rich diet . Also try to gain gradual weight during pregnancy and drink 7 – 8 glasses of water everyday .


Stretch marks are temporary but they are common . One can notice that there are no health risks involved but the treatment basically is to improve the self image and one should not feel inferior with or without it .
