WHAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MACROBIOTIC DIET ?

Macrobiotic diet also known as macrobiotic Japanese diet is a vegetarian  diet which is said to enhance health and promote longevity . This diet focuses on organic , locally grown and seasonal produce . This diet is not only a diet but a lifestyle .

This has some recommendations too –

1     1. Chew your food properly .

2     2. Eat when you are hungry and drink when                   thirsty .

3     3. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic drinks .

4     4. Avoid microwave ovens too .


HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE DIET :

Macrobiotic diet has several health benefits . Though it is not scientifically proven but as we know that this diet is mostly vegetarian so it is beneficial for people who have high cholesterol and are dealing with heart problems .  It is also beneficial for people who have diabetes as this diet eliminates foods which are sugary .


LIST OF FOODS ONE CAN EAT :

Brown rice    

Quinoa

Cereals

Carrots

Cauliflower

Broccoli

Pickles

Beans

Seaweed


FOODS ONE SHOULD NOT EAT WHILE FOLLOWING THIS DIET :

Meat

Lettuce

Cucumbers

Dairy products

Caffeinated beverages

Tropical foods

Spicy foods

Processed foods

Also one should eat without any distractions . And one should chew the food as many times until the food is nearly liquefied .


WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS OF MACROBIOTIC DIET :

Though this diet has certain health benefits but it lack in certain nutrients such as iron , calcium , magnesium , protein etc . Also this diet is high on salt so it may not be ideal for people who have high blood pressure .
