The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj”. It is the fusion of aatma with parmatma. It creates a balance between soul and mind. Yoga is an invaluable gift of India to the world. Yoga acts as an aid to one’s health. It helps us in maintaining a balance between oneself and the environment. It also teaches us to concentrate while we hold the poses.


1. It builds muscle strength: Yoga helps in strengthening weak muscles of the body. It helps in toning up the body. And it also prevents us from frequent exertion of the muscles.

2. Boosts metabolism: It helps us retaining the liveliness of the body while keeping it fit. It drives us towards healthy eating which increases metabolic rate.

3. Helps in lowering blood sugar level: It vitalize weight loss and improves body reactivity to insulin. It not only reduces the sugar level but also lowers bad cholesterol and boosts good cholesterol.

 4. Improves flexibility: As we grow older, our flexibility gradually decreases. Specially if one spend most of the time sitting which leads to pain and immobility. So doing asanas helps us bringing greater range of motion to tight areas.

5. Improves balance: Pose where we stand on one leg are great ways to build core strength that keeps us upright. Improved balance is also one of the most important benefit of yoga as we grow older.

6. Supports joint health: Yoga also helps strengthening the muscles around the joints lessening the load. People who have arthritis often see a significant improvement in the pain and mobility with regular practice of yoga.

7. Prevents back pain: Many people who spend a lot of time sitting at a computer or driving often suffer from back pain as it causes tightness throughout the body. So yoga can help in reverse this process.

8. Better breathing: Yoga breathing exercise called pranayama focus us attention to breathing and teach us how to take deeper breaths which benefits the entire body. As most of us take shallow breaths and don’t give much attention to how we should breathe. So taking proper and longer breaths both benefits our mind and body.

9. Reduces stress: Practicing yoga on daily basis are less likely to be stressed because of the concentration we put our daily problems seems to go away and we experience peace and calmness.

10. Increases self-confidence: Doing yoga improves one’s mind body connection giving us the better awareness of our body. We also learn to accept our body as it is. Performing yoga also teaches us the correct posture which eventually boosts our self-confidence. 


Yoga is a way of living. It guides us towards a healthy lifestyle which leads to healthy mind and a healthy body. It helps us to promote a balanced development of physical, mental and spiritual being. It also helps us to relax our mind completely and helps us work on unnecessary tension thus it facilitates better sleep.

 Yoga if practiced on a daily basis has numerous positive effects on our body. Whether it is improving the blood circulation or relieving anxiety. Yoga is not just about holding certain poses or holding our breath. It brings us close to ourselves and helps us understanding ourselves better. It helps to understand whole nature as a part of ourselves. This is union which yoga creates. 

Yoga truly transforms our way of living and broadens our horizons in ways we can never imagined. It truly brings mental clarity and calmness. It also helps us to understand ourselves and the purpose of life. Yoga leads a spiritual path to knowledge and eternal bliss in the union of eternal self with universal self. It develops our physical, mental, spiritual and social health. Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and reaching a more positive outlook on life.

When you perform yoga, you evolve as a person you learn how to not stuck on small things and move on. The benefits of yoga are endless. It effects our body and mind in numerous ways. 


As we know that yoga has numerous positive effects on our health and is also hailed for its ability to firm up the body and reduces stress. However, if we perform it in a wrong way instead of enjoying the benefits, we can experience negative impact on our body So here are some precautions we should know before performing yoga asanas:

  • If you suffer from a physical disability, always consult your doctor or physician before practicing yoga.
  • One should always perform yoga in a particular sequence.
  • If you practice yoga don’t only rely on it. . Change your diet too, add some fruits and salad.
  • People who have suffered from heart problems should always consult a doctor. And should always perform yoga in front of yoga practitioners.
  • One should never perform yoga in wrong postures otherwise it can have adverse effect on our body. So always perform it in a proper manner to get positive results.
  • Perform all the asanas slow and carefully. Read all the instructions provided by the instructor.
  • Since our body is needed to be stretched while performing certain asanas so one should always perform yoga in a plain surface. Which is comfortable to avoid slipping and falling away.
  • One should never exaggerate or force himself into a posture rather relax move slowly.
  • One should never practice yoga with heavy stomach. Atleast have a break to 4-5 hours before performing yoga.
  • To achieve utmost benefits of yoga, practice yoga in a quiet place.
